Cook played for Florida State as a college-level player, where he was an all-time leading rusher.

High School and College Highlights

Dalvin Cook played football representing Miami Central later in his sophomore year. Cook waited until sophomore as he believed he stood no chance against senior running back, Devonta Freeman who guided Central to a Class 6A state title in 2010. Cook trained under coach Telly Lockette. 

As a junior, Cook lined up at running back while his best friend, Joseph Yearby, played wildcat quarterback on running downs. Then in his senior year, Cook had 34 touchdowns on 177 carries, intercepting three passes as he rushed for a county-best 1940 yards.

The Rivals ranked Dalvin Cook as a five-star recruit, ranking as the second-best all-purpose back in his class. Cook was considering Clemson University; however, he changed to Florida.

From 2014 to 2016, Cook played for the university and trained under coach Jimbo Fisher. Cook was entitled MVP of the 2014 ACC Championship Game after setting a career-high 177 yards on 31 carries and one rushing touchdown.

In July 2015, he was charged following an incident outside a bar which was later known to be a misunderstanding, and Cook was found not guilty.

Cook had a successful 2015 and 2016 season, where he finished his career with 4464 rushing yards. However, Cook announced he would not play his senior year for the 2017 NFL Draft

Professional Career

Following the invitation to the NFL, Dalvin Cook ranked top running back in the draft by Sports Illustrated and Pro Football Focus. In addition, he has been rated the second-best running back by NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks and the third-best running back by NFLDraftScout and NFL analyst Mike Mayock.

However, his character and behavior resulted in his stock fall. Following the 2017 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected Cook and made his NFL debut against New Orleans Saints. His rookie year concluded with 354 rushing yards.

Cook suffered a torn ACL injury ending his rookie season. After his injury, he won against the San Francisco 49ers with a 95 scrimmage yards record. In week 2, Cook suffered a hamstring injury missing four games. The 2018 season concluded with 615 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and caught 40 receptions for 305 yards on Cook’s part.

The 2019 season concluded with 1,135 rushing yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, and 53 receptions for 519 receiving yards in 14 games. In the 2020 season, Cook set a career-high of 1,557 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, along with 361 receiving yards and one touchdown.

In 2021, Cook announced to wear No. 4 jersey from the 2022 NFL season and signed a five-year extension contract with the Vikings worth $63 million.
