    Mel Reid is a professional golfer from the United Kingdom who competes on the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour. Reid became pro in 2008 and was voted Rookie of the Year on the Ladies’ European Tour. She won her first LPGA Tour event, the ShopRite LPGA Classic, in October 2020. Mel Reid has seven professional titles to her name, including one on the LPGA Tour and six on the Ladies’ European Tour.

    Early life

    Melissa Rose Reid was born on September 19, 1987, in Derby, England – or, as she puts it, the “middle of England.” Brian and Joy Reid’s daughter. By 11 years, I am the youngest of seven children. Her mother, Rose, and a character in one of her father’s favorite books, “Melissa,” by Taylor Caldwell, are two of the strongest women her father has ever known.

    Mel Reid exercised in the rain, the sun, the wind, and the snow. She didn’t have parents who always told her what she wanted to know. Instead, her parents instilled in her the value of hard effort in whatever she accomplished. Mel turned professional in 2007 and experienced her first setback when she was denied a spot on the Ladies European Tour (LET). However, sponsor invitations kept her afloat until she finished third in the 2008 Australian Open.

     

    Early career

    Mel Reid was born in the English city of Derby. She won the English Girls’ Championship in 2004 and 2005, the Helen Holm Trophy in 2006 and 2007, the St Rule Trophy in 2007, and the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 2007. In the 2006 Curtis Cup, she was a member of Great Britain and Ireland squad.

    Mel Reid finished T16 in the 2007 Women’s British Open as the lowest amateur.

     

    Professional career

    Reid did not gain her card at the LET Qualifying School in Italy in 2007, but she went pro in late 2007 and began playing on the Ladies European Tour on sponsor invites in 2008. Her third-place finish at the Australian Open in early February kept her in the top 20 on the money list and allowed her to compete in LET events for the remainder of the season. In 2008, she was voted LET Rookie of the Year after finishing 12th on the money list.

    Mel Reid won the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open in 2010 for the first time on the LET. She won two more tournaments in 2011 and was a member of the 2011 Solheim Cup squad, clinching a position on the European team as the LET leader.

    Personal life

    Joy Reid, Reid’s mother, was killed in a car accident near Munich in May 2012 while driving to see her daughter compete in a Ladies European Tour event. Reid promptly returned to golf, but her game quickly deteriorated in the years that followed.

    Mel Reid identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community. In public, she is very forthright about her sexual preference. Reid is engaged to Carly Grenfell, her partner. The couple has been dating for over two years. In December 2020, Mel and Carl announced their engagement.

    Mel Reid’s net worth is estimated to be in the millions of dollars. Reid has not built a large earnings portfolio despite her professional career spanning more than fifteen years. However, Mel’s sponsorship deals with the USGA, Aggreko, PEGA, Nike, and a few others must be paying off.

    Mel’s first year on the Ladies European Tour netted her only $5,000. However, she earned $150,606 the next season after playing in sixteen competitions. Ried competed in the tournament till 2017, earning more than $1.5 million in prize money. In 2017, the English golfer made her LPGA debut and won $119,755 in prize money. Reid had a poor season the next year, earning only $79,363 from twenty events.

    Reid competed in twenty-one LPGA events in 2019 and earned $323,450, while also tying for third at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, her highest LPGA Tour finish. Mel earned $441,415 in 2020 after winning the ShopRite LPGA Classic and became a Rolex-First Time Winner. Her total prize money from LPGA tournaments is $1,144,251.
