Christian Eriksen is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. He joined Wolfsburg in September 2025 after leaving Manchester United and signed a contract until 2027. Eriksen also represents Denmark internationally and is the country’s record men’s appearance holder.

EARLY LIFE

Christian Dannemann Eriksen was born on February 14, 1992, in Middelfart, Denmark. He began playing football at a very young age and joined his hometown club, Middelfart Boldklub, as a child. He acquired his desire for football at the young age of 3. He has a sister named Louise Eriksen. Louise also fell in love with the game of football due to the influence of her brother. They were very close and often played together, who rose in a middle-class family. From 1992 to 2005, Christian Eriksen played for Middelfart and was named the “Best Technical Player.” He got scouted by many clubs like Barcelona and Chelsea but didn’t get signed by any.

CAREER

Eriksen started playing football at Middelfart G&BK before he was even three years old. He moved to the youth team of Odense BK at the age of 13. At the age of 14, Eriksen played in the U-16 team of his club and was voted “Best Technical Player” in the Danish youth league.  In 2008 he played in the U-16 and U-19 team of the club, with which he also won the youth championship. Christian Eriksen was the winning goal scorer in the 1-0 win against Brøndby IF.  Besides, he had developed into a critical player in the Danish U-17 national team. In 2008 he got voted the best “U-17 player in Denmark”.

In October 2008, he signed a youth contract with Ajax and moved to their youth academy. After two seasons for the youth team, he was taken to the winter training camp by coach Martin Jol and made his competitive debut for the professional club on January 17, 2010, and got voted “Man of the Match.” On August 30, 2013, he got transferred to the Premier League Tottenham Hotspur. He scored his first goal for Tottenham on December 26, 2013, in the match against West Bromwich Albion. He was named Footballer of the Year in Denmark and Player of the Season in the club by the end of the year. 

Eriksen scored twelve goals in all competitions during the 2014-15 season. In 2017, Tottenham Hotspur got placed on the table for the first time since 1996. Christian Eriksen received the Player of the Season award once again in 2017. In 2019, Eriksen reached the final of the UEFA Champions League with Tottenham Hotspur. They lost the finals to Liverpool FC.

After leaving Tottenham, Eriksen joined Inter Milan in January 2020. He helped Inter win the 2020-21 Serie A title before leaving the club in December 2021. He then returned to the Premier League with Brentford in January 2022 and later joined Manchester United in July 2022. He spent three seasons at Manchester United before leaving at the end of the 2024-25 season. From 2007 to 2009, he played in the Denmark U17 team on the international front, and in 27 appearances, he scored nine goals. He played in the Denmark U18 in 2009 and scored one goal in 5 appearances. For the Denmark U19 team, he scored a goal in 3 appearances. In 201, he played for the Denmark U21 team and scored one goal in 3 appearances. From 2010, he started playing for the Danish national team. To date, he has played in 103 games for them and scored 36 goals. 

VfL Wolfsburg (2025-Current)

Eriksen joined VfL Wolfsburg as a free agent in September 2025 and signed a contract until 2027. He wore the number 24 shirt and became a central midfielder for the German club. During the 2025-26 season, he made 31 Bundesliga appearances and provided assists, including one in Wolfsburg’s final league match of the season.

In June 2026, Eriksen suffered another health incident during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine and was later reported to be doing well. Wolfsburg announced in September 2026 that he would undergo an individual rehabilitation programme in Denmark while remaining in contact with the club.

PERSONAL LIFE

Christian Eriksen is in a long-term relationship with Sabrina Kvist Jensen. They have children together, including their son Alfred, who was born in 2018. The couple generally keeps their family life private. He once said that the English football scene has led to her not spending much time with his family due to the hectic schedule and training. His younger sister also plays football and has played in the Danish women’s national team.
