His first victory for the championship came over Vitali Klitschko in the year 2000, and his second victory for the championship came over Evander Holyfield in the year 2002. His second victory came over Mike Sullivan when he managed to knock him out in the very first round technically. Likewise, his third victory came via unanimous decision against Exum Speight on 22 March 1994 in a scheduled fight for 6 rounds. After this, he won six of his fights in a row via knockouts and technical knockouts.

    His tenth win came over Joel Humm when Humm retired in the 4th round in the fight that was scheduled for a total of 8 rounds, and his eleventh win came over Arthur Williams via split decision on 23 May 1995. Following this, he went on to win the USBA heavyweight title on 12 May 2001 when he defeated Maurice Harris via unanimous decision and then retained the USBA heavyweight title against David Tua on 18 August 2001.
