Jermaine Samuels Jr., well-known as Jermaine Samuels, is an American collegiate-level basketball player. He plays as a small forward for the Villanova Wildcats of the Big East Conference.

He was a part of the team that won the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament and bronze medal-winning team in the Pan American Games of 2019.

Jermaine Samuels was coached by Andrew Mirken in Rivers School. As a freshman, he scored 16 points per game. However, he suffered a knee injury as a sophomore. The injury led to a surgery that required six months to recover. During high school, he also played on the Amateur Athletic Union (AUU) for Expressions Elite.

In his senior year, Samuels set an average of 17.5 points and 12.1 rebounds per game and was named First-team All-USA Massachusetts by USA Today. In addition, he has ranked the 52nd best recruit in his class. 

Samuels was offered to play for several universities like Indiana, Duke, Kansas, UConn, Georgetown, Arizona State, and California. However, he committed to Villanova after he visited in August 2016.

College Highlights

After committing to Villanova, he had a very successful freshman season and set a season-high 11 points against DePaul on December 27, 2017. However, a left-hand fracture led him to miss several games. Samuels returned in February 2018; however, his role was limited. He set an average of 1.1 points and 1.2 rebounds per game on the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s basketball championship team. 

He set an average of 6.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in his sophomore season and scored a season-high 29 points against Marquette. As a junior, he set an average of 10.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. In addition, he was named to the Second Team All-Big 5. During his junior season, he sprained his foot on January 28, 2020, leading to a missed game against St. John.

He scored 12 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in his senior season, which earned him the All-Big East Honorable Mention recognition. Also, he scored a career-high 32 points and had six rebounds, five assists, and three steals against Georgetown. Furthermore, Samuels declared his return for the fifth season of eligibility.

National Team Highlights

Jermaine Samuels has played in the national team of the United States at the Pan American Games in Peru. Samuels averaged 9.4 points per game and won the bronze medal against the Dominican Republic.
