After playing for the Bethesda Roadrunners, he joined the IMG Soccer Academy in the year 2009. After that, he joined 1899 Hoffenheim. He was transferred as a loan to FC St. Pauli in August of 2012. He played there for a whole season.
Joe Gyau went on to join the Under-23 squad of the renowned Borussia Dortmund and played his first match for the team on 24th September 2014 against VfB Stuggart.
