Chris started his career as a Graduate assistant in the year 1997. He was a Graduate Assistant for Soth Carolina. This was the college where he studied and has been graduated. Later that year, he left the position of Graduate Assistant from Soth Carolins, when he was offered a position of head coach in Calhoun Country High School. He served as a head coach of Calhoun Country High school from 1997 to 2001.

In the year 2002, after he resigned from Calhoun H.S, he was appointed as Defensive backs for South Carolina State, in the year 2002. After 2002, he was appointed as outside Linebackers from 2003 to 2005 in Memphis. Chris Rumph rose to fame after he was appointed as Defensive Ends and Defensive Lines for Clemson. He served for continuous 4 years for Clemson.

In the year 2011, Chris served as defensive Line for Alabama. The next year, he was the assistant head coach for Defensive/Defensive Line for texas. Chris Rumph has served as a defensive line, Co-defensive Line/ Defensive line for Florida. Currently, he is serving as Defensive Coordinator for Florida from 2017 to this day. No wonder Chris Rumph is one of the professional coaches in the American Football league who has served for more than 25 years.

During the early 1990s, Chris was a letter winner at linebacker at South Carolina for straight 4 years. For his 3 years of career as a defensive line coach at Florida, he was nominated for the best assistive coach for the year 2001.
