John Albert Elway Jr., who was born on June 28, 1960, is an American football official and former quarterback and president of the Denver Broncos National Football League. John Albert Elway Jr. played football while studying at Stanford College and all his 16-year professional career with the Denver Broncos. In 1999, Elway had recorded a major victory in the first quarterback and statistically, he was the second most influential player in NFL history before announcing his retirement from his football career.

Elway was also a prolific rusher of the ball; John Albert Elway Jr. was one of only two players ever to score a rushing touchdown in four different Super Bowls and the only quarterback. Elway is also only one of two quarterbacks to decide on retirement after a Super Bowl victory. In addition, Elway set several career records for good passing skills while he was at Stanford, and he also received All-American honours.

 Career

At Stanford University, John Albert Elway played on both the football and baseball teams. Unfortunately, his football team lost more games than they won, but Elway still managed to surprise college fans with some of his gridiron feats. In his first year, Elway was able to complete 50 of 97 passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns, and that year was considered to be the best in his college career.

In 2nd year, Elway completed 248 of 379 passes—an incredible 65 % completion rate for 2,889 yards and 27 touchdowns. Elway completed 774 passes out of 1,246 attempts in his four years of a college career, for a total yardage of 9,349 and 77 touchdowns. He also set a National College Athletic Association record for the lowest percentage of obstructed passes in a career. He finished second to Herschel Walker of the University of Georgia in balloting for the 1982 Heisman award.

After graduating from Stanford with a bachelor’s degree in economics, Elway decided to change his football career into a baseball career. John Albert Elway Jr got drafted in April 1983 by the Baltimore Orioles but could not make a secret of his unhappiness at the prospect of playing for the losing baseball team. Luckily, the Denver Broncos took the chance to trade for Elway.

After his rocky rookie season,  Elway came back to California and decided married college sweetheart Janet. Back in Denver for his second season, Elway’s performance improved significantly. He raised his pass completion rate to 56 %, throwing for 18 touchdowns, and led his team to the American Football Conference (AFC) West division title.

Unfortunately, the Denver Broncos were out in the first round of the playoffs, but the team and Elway had shown the football world that they were capable of great things. Elway’s career got best during the 1985 season, ranking second in the NFL in pass completions and passing yards. However, even though the Broncos won eleven games, they were unable to make it till the playoffs. Then after 16 years of serving in this field, Elway decides to retire. But he wasn’t ready to make his life completely out of the field and took part of ownership stake in Arena Football League (AFL) team called the Colorado Crush.
