John Fulkerson Early Life
In Kingsport, Tennessee, John Fulkerson was born on April 29, 1997. John is the son of Mike and Ramona Fulkerson. He has an older brother and two younger sisters. The 24-year-old holds American citizenship and is of white descent. John stands 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) tall and weighs 219 lb (99 kg).

In John first two years of high school, Fulkerson played basketball at Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tennessee, before moving on to Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, for further exposure. He scored 10 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game, compiling a school record with 93 blocks.
In his senior season, Fulkerson scored 14.5 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.5 blocks per game, breaking Marshall Plumlee School’s one-season school record with 112 blocks. In addition, he won the NCISAA 3-A All-State Award and was named the Carolinas Athletic Association Player Annual.
On November 22, 2016, in John’s first season in Tennessee, Fulkerson recorded 12 points, ten rebounds, and five blocks in an extra 69-65 extra-time loss to Oregon ranked 13th. Then, on December 15 against Lipscomb, he broke his right wrist and broke his right elbow, setting him aside for the rest of the season.
Fulkerson underwent surgery and was given a medical redshirt. However, before playing another game, he was attacked by a labrum on his left shoulder that required further surgery. For his next season, as a new redshirt, Fulkerson averaged 9.3 minutes per game. He has worked as a Tennessee top player off the bench during his sophomore season.
On December 29, 2018, Fulkerson scored 15 points with a 96-53 win over Tennessee Tech. He scored 3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game as a second player. During his junior season, Fulkerson was put in a very important role with the departures of Grant Williams and Kyle Alexander.
On February 15, 2020, Fulkerson posted 25 points in a 63-61 loss to South Carolina. Then, on March 3, he scored 27 high points to help undefeated Tennessee overcome a 17-point deficit and upset Kentucky, 81-73, in sixth place. Fulkerson finished the season with an average of 13.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game and was named in the Second South East Conference (SEC) team by league coaches.
He led his team in scoring, recovering, and stealing, while shooting 61.2 percent on the field, ranked second in the SEC and fourth in school history. Unfortunately, Fulkerson was badly injured and broke his face when Tennessee won 78-64 against Florida in the 2021 SEC tournament, forcing him to miss the remaining two games of the season.
As an adult, Fulkerson scored 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He decided to return for the sixth season in April, taking advantage of the NCAA’s offer of another year of qualifying for the COVID-19 epidemic. Fulkerson underwent wrist surgery in June 2021.
