Oscar Rafael Valdez Fierro is a Mexican professional boxer who was entitled to WBO featherweight champion from 2016 till 2019. He has been in the field of fighting since 2012. 

He was born on the 22nd of December 1990, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. He is the son of Oscar Valdez Sr. and Gloria Fierro. He grew up with his three siblings.

Valdez became famous for his victory over compatriot Carlos Cuadras in the 2007 semifinals at the National Championship, where he eventually took gold. In the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games, he ousted the Brazilian boxer Jamas Pereira. In 2008 in Beijing, however, he met in the very first fight with the winner of the Olympics, Mongolian Badar-Uugan Enkhbatyn.

Later, in 2008, he won the youth boxing championship. The tournament took place in Guadalajara in his home country. In 2009 he took part in the Pan American Games, lost in the third round to Brazilian Robson Conceicao. In Milan in 2009, Oscar won a bronze medal and became the first Mexican to win a medal at the world championship. In the semifinal fight, he lost to the Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko.

In 2011, Valdez took a silver medal at the Pan American Games.

On November 3, 2012, Valdez successfully debuted in the professional ring in the featherweight category. In the tenth fight in the pro-ring, which took place on April 14, 2014, he won the NABF junior featherweight champion of North America (up to 59 kg). In July 2014, he won a similar title in the featherweight (up to 57.2 kg). On April 9, 2016, he met with the former world featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich from Russia. In the 4th round, Valdes knocked down his opponent. Gradovic got up, but the referee decided to stop the fight. 

On November 5, 2016, he knocked out Japanese Hiroshige Osawa in the 7th round.

On April 22, 2017, he won on points the former contender for the world title in the featherweight Colombian Miguel Marriage. On September 22, 2017, he won on points the unbeaten Filipino Genesis Servania (English) Russian.

On March 10, 2018, he defeated ex-world bantamweight champion Scott Quigg of Britain.

On February 2, 2019, he knocked out Italian Carmine Tommazone (English) in the 7th round.

On June 8, 2019, he defeated American Jason Sanchez on points.

July 21, 2020, knocked out in the 10th round the former contender for the world title in featherweight Puerto Rican Jason Velez.

Champion fought with Matias Rueda.

On July 23, 2016, he met with Argentinean Matias Rueda (English) Russian. In a fight for the vacant WBO world featherweight title. In the 2nd round, Valdez knocked down Rueda twice with punches to the body. After the second knockdown, the referee stopped the fight. Valdez won by TKO and became world champion.
