Rabah Madjer is a former professional football player from Algeria who played as a striker for the teams like FC Porto and Valencia CF. Early Life

On 15 December 1958, Rabah was born in Hussein Dey, Algeria, under the sign of Sagittarius. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall regarding his physical status. His full name is Rabah Mustapha Madjer, and he is now 63 years old.

Professional Career

In accord with Wikipedia, Rabah started his football journey from Onalait Hussein Dey’s academy. He joined the academy in 1972 and left in 1973.

After leaving Onalait, he moved to NA Hussein Dey’s academy in the same year and remained a youth player until 1978. Finally, he got promoted to the senior team of NA after spending five years at its academy. He made 94 appearances and scored 58 goals for NA.

Rabah Madjer joined the French side Racing Paris from NA in 1983. He spent one and a half seasons there before joining Tours FC on loan for the 1984–85 season.

He joined FC Porto in the 1985–86 season and made history in the European Cup final against Bayern Munich the following season, scoring the 1–1 equalizer in a memorable final that finished 2–1 to the Portuguese side.

In the same year, he scored in the club’s Intercontinental Cup victory.

Rabah Madjer moved to Italy to join Inter Milan in 1988, but medical testing revealed that he had previously suffered a significant thigh muscle injury, and the deal was never legally completed.

Rabah won the Ballon d’Or Africain after his spectacular 1987 season, but he was not eligible to compete for the European Golden Ball because he was not born in the region.

He scored ten times in only 11 games throughout the first half of the 1987–88 season.

Bayern Munich also targeted Rabah, but he chose to sign for a Valencia CF in January 1988. The Netherlands legend Johan Cruyff had also tried to sign Rabah for AFC Ajax when the clubs encountered him in the 1987 European Super Cup.

As per All Africa, he was a member of the Algerian national team for 19 years and attended the 1986 FIFA World Cup finals.

At the age of 28, he retired as the country’s highest goalscorer with 87 caps, having also triumphed the Africa Cup of Nations in 1990, in which the hosts beat Nigeria twice, 5-1 in the opening match and 1-0 in the final.

He has incredible speed and won numerous trophies with the Algerian national team. However, his most famous goal came in Algeria’s 2–1 World Cup victory over Germany in 1982 when he scored in the 53rd minute.

According to the BBC, Rabah returned to FC Porto following his retirement to oversee youth development. He also worked as a club manager in Qatar before returning to Algeria as a manager for a second time.

Algeria did not move past the group stage of the 2002 Nations Cup, which was frustrating for him.

However, a succession of defeats, notably a 4-1 friendly loss to France, prompted him to resign from his position and declare that he would not be associated with the national team again.
