Career

McClanahan went 29-7 in high school, with a 1.02 ERA and 187 strikeouts in 123 innings pitched. Shane attended the University of South Florida and began playing college baseball after refusing the Mets’ bid in the 2015 MLB draft. After missing 2016 due to injury, McClanahan went 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 76 innings in 15 games in 2017. In 14 starts the following season, he went 5-6 with a 3.42 ERA.

Shane McClanahan officially signed with the Tampa Bay Rays in the year 2018 and debuted with the GCL Rays before being promoted to the Princeton Rays. He was named to the Midwest League All-Star team in 2019 with the Bowling Green Hot Rods, and he finished the season in Double-A.

McClanahan was appointed to the Charlotte Stone Crabs in June of the same year. He was also added to the Rays’ 40-man roster and added to the Wild Card roster ahead of their 2020 series against the Toronto Blue Jays. McClanahan made his MLB debut against the Yankees in the ALDS on October 5, 2020.

Through doing so, he joined Alex Kirilloff, Adalberto Mondesi, Mark Kiger, and Bug Holliday as the fifth player in franchise history to start in the postseason.
