In April 2016, Luwawu-Cabarrot announced to be in the 2016 NBA Draft. Following that, the Philadelphia 76ers picked him with the 24th overall selection in the draft. He joined the NBA Summer League squad on July 3, 2016, after signing a rookie-scale deal with the 76ers.

In a 104–72 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on October 29, 2016, he made his NBA debut, recording a rebound, an assist, and a steal in six minutes. In a three-team transaction involving the 76ers and the Atlanta Hawks, Luwawu-Cabarrot was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on July 25, 2018.

Luwawu-Cabarrot led the junior French national basketball team at the 2014 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship and the 2015 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship.

Injury
