    Christopher Wondolowski is an American professional soccer forward for the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer. His full name is Christopher Elliott Wondolowski. He has crowned MLS’s top scorer in 2010 and 2012 and the 2012 Most Valuable Player and has since established himself as one of the best attackers in the league.

    Christopher Wondolowski was a college soccer player for the Chico State Wildcats, and he joined the Chico Rooks in 2004. In 2005, he was drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes. Christopher Wondolowski is the all-time leading scorer in Major League Soccer, with 161 goals, and the only player in league history to score 150 or more.

    Christopher Wondolowski has been a full international since 2011 and has played in three CONCACAF Gold Cups, including the 2013 edition and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

    Early life

    Christopher Wondolowski attended De La Salle High School in Concord, California, where he played soccer. Local media honored him with two “Player of the Year” awards in 2001. Wondolowski represented the Diablo Valley Soccer Club and the Danville Mustang Soccer Association in club soccer.

    At Chico State University, Christopher Wondolowski had a stellar college soccer career, scoring 39 goals in 84 games. In the 2004 season, he scored 17 goals for the Chico Rooks of the Men’s Premier Soccer League.

     

    Professional career

    The San Jose Earthquakes selected Christopher Wondolowski with the 41st overall choice in the fourth round of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft. In 2005, despite only appearing in two MLS games for San Jose, he led the Earthquakes reserve team in scoring eight goals in 12 games.

    In 2009, Wondolowski was a member of the Houston Dynamo. He relocated to Houston with the rest of his Earthquakes colleagues for the 2006 season, where he once again led the reserve team in scoring with 13 goals in 11 games. On August 30, 2006, he scored his first MLS goal against the Chicago Fire. Wondolowski scored against Pachuca in the CONCACAF Champions’ Cup semifinals in 2007, but Houston was eliminated.

    In June 2009, Christopher Wondolowski was sent to the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for Cam Weaver. Wondolowski’s playing time increased once he moved to San Jose, and he featured in 14 games for the Sharks, scoring three goals.

    In 2010, Christopher Wondolowski had a breakout season, leading Major League Soccer in scoring with 18 goals in 26 games and helping San Jose to the MLS Playoffs. Wondolowski won his first MLS Golden Boot after scoring 18 goals in the regular season, the most in the league. Wondolowski signed a new deal with San Jose in February 2012.

    Christopher Wondolowski was selected to play in the 2012 Major League Soccer All-Star Game against Chelsea. John Terry was his defender, and he scored in the 21st minute. Wondolowski scored his fourth career hat-trick against the Colorado Rapids on October 6, 2012, to become the San Jose Earthquakes’ all-time leading goal-scorer. He also tied Roy Lassiter’s MLS record of 27 goals in a season that season. For his achievements in April, June, September, and October, Wondolowski became the first and only MLS player to earn the player of the Month award four times in a single season.

    Wondolowski became the third player in MLS history to score double-digit goals in five consecutive seasons on August 24, 2014, joining Carlos Ruiz and Juan Pablo Angel. Wondolowski led the San Jose Earthquakes for the fifth straight season with 14 goals. On May 24, 2015, he scored his 100th goal in Major League Soccer. He was the ninth player in MLS history to accomplish this accomplishment.

    Christopher Wondolowski made his 229th career start for San Jose versus Atlanta United FC at Bobby Dodd Stadium on July 4, 2017, surpassing Ramiro Corrales to become the club’s all-time leading starter. On August 19, 2017, Wondolowski became the first player in league history to score ten or more goals in each of the previous eight seasons. After ending the 2017 regular season with 13 goals and eight assists, he got his seventh overall and fourth consecutive Team MVP award on October 22, 2017.

    Wondolowski tied and broke Landon Donovan’s goal-scoring record with four goals against the Chicago Fire at Avaya Stadium on May 18, 2019, scoring 148 goals in his 338th MLS game.

    International Career

    Christopher Wondolowski was called up to the United States men’s national soccer team’s Winter Training Camp after a good tenure with the Earthquakes in 2010, which includes earning the 2010 MLS Golden Boot. In addition, Wondolowski was named to the US roster for the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup competition on May 23, 2011.

    He scored his first international goal against Guatemala at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California, on July 5, 2013. Four days later, at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland, Oregon, using a jersey with his name written “Wondowlowski,” he scored a hat-trick in the first half against Belize.

    Chris is the younger brother of Stephen Wondolowski, a professional soccer player. His mother (Janis Hoyt) is of half-Native American ancestry, having been born into the Kiowa tribe of Oklahoma, of which Chris is also a member. Bau Daigh, or “Bowe Dye,” is a tribal name that signifies “warrior coming over the hill.” His paternal grandpa immigrated to the United States with his family from Warsaw, Poland, when he was seven. His daughter Emersyn was born on December 23, 2013, after marrying his wife Lindsey in 2009. Brynlee, their second child, was born on March 10, 2016.
