Ramos went to Guaynabo, Puerto Rico’s Leadership Christian Academy. In Puerto Rico, he was a member of the Las Lomas Potros travel ball team. Prior to signing his professional contract, he had agreed to play baseball at Florida International University. Ramos was named the Most Valuable Player of 2016 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game, an exhibition of high school juniors and seniors held on July 23, 2016, at Wrigley Field.

Ramos was picked 19th overall in the first round of the 2017 MLB draft by the San Francisco Giants. Ramos started his professional baseball career with the Arizona League Giants of the Rookie-level Arizona League, which is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona.
