It didn’t take long for his silky talents to draw attention. RCD Espanyol was the first club to express interest, and it was with the Pericos that he made his professional debut. Moriba, on the other hand, joined the FC Barcelona academy at the tender age of seven in 2010. Since then, he’s risen through the ranks and is now a member of the first-team squad.
With Ilaix Moriba’s goal against CA Osasuna, Moriba became the club’s fifth-youngest player to score for the first team, at the age of 18 years and 46 days. Another interesting thing about him is that he is the youngest player in LaLiga Santander this season to score from outside the box.
Starting his football Career
Ilaix Moriba, a Guinean native, joined Barça from Espanyol’s youth system when he was seven years old. He began his career in the Under-9s C team and soon advanced to the Under-10s Aside. In the 2019/20 season, he was a standout for the Under-19s A team, appearing in nine league games and scoring four goals. In addition, he appeared in three Youth League games. His outstanding plays earned him a spot with Barça B, where he appeared in eight games, three of them as a starter in the Playoffs.
In 2010, Ilaix Moriba moved to Barcelona from Espanyol. He is regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation, and he has always competed against players far older than himself. Moriba made an impression at the age of 15 when he scored a hat-trick against Real Madrid’s U19 team. His final strike, which he scored from the middle of the pitch at the start of the second half, was particularly noteworthy.
Manchester City and Juventus wanted to sign him when his youth contract was going to expire in January 2019, but he ultimately agreed to a record deal with a wage of more than €500,000 per year and a €100 million buyout option.
He became a regular the next season. On March 8, 2020, he scored the game-winning goal in a 3–2 victory over Llagostera.
