He moved up to the High-A Bowling Green Hot Rods in 2023 and made 22 starts, recording a 5.21 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 95 innings. Turning point
JJ Goss’s career got a new way immediately he was signed by Ray for Tampa Bay for a huge amount of money. From there he got proper exposure, and he continues to develop his game skill every day.
Goss repeats his mechanics well and fills up the zone with control, command, and understanding that is considered advanced for his age and experience. There’s still a long way to go keeping in mind his pro career only just began before 2020 kept him from pitching most of the year, but he has the arsenal, delivery, and advanced feel to break out and reach his ability as a Major League starter.
According to BA, Goss was previously looked as a projectable strike-thrower, but his stuff has refine this spring. They’re not distinctly comparable, but that aspect of his report reminds me of Liberatore last year.

He now throws in the low-90s, and he can get vigorous to maintain and add to that velocity. He already had a feel for an elevated slider and changeup.
With those improvements, he should definately be a first-round pick. He’s the kind of pitcher team. You are looking for more and more in the draft now. It’s fine that he doesn’t throw a high-speed fastball. He can grow into some more velocity, and his secondary pitches are already promising.
Although injuries, the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in his role affected his development, Goss continued progressing through the Rays’ minor-league system. His move from starting regularly to working more frequently as a reliever also became an important part of his development.
His 2024 season with Bowling Green was particularly encouraging. Working primarily out of the bullpen, he recorded a 2.35 ERA in 23 innings and struck out 28 batters. He followed that performance with a solid 2025 season at Double-A Montgomery, where he posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 40 innings.
Goss entered the Athletics organization with the opportunity to continue developing at the Double-A level. His ability to throw strikes and contribute both as a starter and reliever remains an important part of his professional profile.
