Zach Plesac attended Crown Point High School and was a standout athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. However, he finally picked baseball and played for Ball State University’s Cardinals. Plesac was selected in the 12th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians (362nd overall). He joined with Cleveland on December 29, 2016, but did not play that season.

His professional baseball career began in 2017 with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the Class A Short Season League. Zach was promoted to the Class A Lake County Captains after pitching to a 1.38 ERA in eight games. He concluded the season with a 1–1 record and a 3.60 ERA in six starts.

He split the 2018 season between the Lynchburg Hillcats of Class A Advanced and the Akron RubberDucks of Double-A. He returned to Akron for the 2019 season before being promoted to the Triple-A Columbus Clippers in early May.

Plesac made his MLB debut against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in late May. In 21 starts, Zach finished the season with an 8–6 record. In 115+23 innings, he struck out 88 batters.

He threw in 8 games the next season, posting a 4-2 record with a 2.28 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 55.1 innings thrown.
