John Coppolella is a well-known baseball manager. John was part of the Atlanta Braves in Major League Baseball from 2000 to 2017. John also served as General Manager of Atlanta Braves from 2015 to 2017.

John Coppolella Early Life

John Coppolella was born July 28, 1979, in Whitter, California. After his successful career, he has only been promoted, so much of his parents are still under the radar. John Coppolella enrolled at the University of Notre Dame after graduating from high school.

John completed his undergraduate degree with a manga cum laude with a business management degree. John holds American citizenship and is of Italian descent.

Before graduation, Coppolella was offered a job and first accepted a position at Intel. However, he chose to continue exploring opportunities in baseball and eventually turned down Intel to study for the New York Yankees, who worked for the MLB team from 2000 to 2006.

In 2006, John joined the Braves as their director of baseball operations. He held that position until 2011, when John served as director of professional scouting. In 2012, John was promoted to assistant general manager.

After Frank was sacked as General Manager of the Braves after the 2014 season, John Hart took over as president of the Braves baseball operations, Coppolella was heavily involved in the team’s trade, including trades between Kimbrel and Jason Heyward.

On October 1, 2015, Braves announced that Coppolella had been promoted to general manager and signed a four-year contract. However, on October 2, 2017, Coppolella resigned as general manager after Major League baseball revealed several shortcomings regarding the Braves signing for international players.

Even before that, Coppolella had been criticized for disrespecting MLB rules against harassing players from other teams.

He has also had a reputation for cutting off pre-draft illegal deals with amateur players or early visitors, such as Robert Puason (who included two Braves executives in Terry McGuirk and John Hart). On November 21, 2017, Coppolella was sentenced to life in prison by baseball by the MLB for their investigation into the matter.
