Alex Anthopoulos is a paid baseball official serving as general manager of Atlanta Braves, a position he has held since 2017. In 2020, he became president of Braves’ baseball operations.

Previously, he worked for the Toronto Blue Jays (2009-2015). On November 13, 2017, Anthopoulos was appointed as General Manager and Vice-President of Atlanta Braves, signing a four-year contract.

In February 2020, he was introduced as the New President of Baseball Operations and extended his contract for the 2024 season.

Alex Anthopoulos Early Life

In Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Alex Anthopoulos was born on May 25, 1977, under the sign of the star Gemini. He holds Canadian Citizenship and is of Greek descent in Canada.

His father, John Anthopoulos, owned a heating and ventilation company until he died in 1998. In addition, he has two brothers. Anthopoulos received a degree in economics from McMaster University.

In 2000, Alex was hired by the Montreal Expos as a free student and worked on editing emails for the fans. Alex joined the Toronto Blue Jays in late 2003 as their testing coordinator. After the 2005 season, he was promoted to General Manager (AGM) under JP Ricciardi.

Alex became General Manager of the Blue Jays in October 2009, following Ricciardi’s dismissal. Anthopoulos also contributed to duplicating the size of the Blue Jays inspection department, enlarging it to 54 scouts in various positions. Jays’ first season with Anthopoulos in charge led to a record 85-77, which ranks fourth in the American League (AL) East.

In January 2011, Anthopoulos ended the blockbuster trade by sending another long-term face to the Blue Jays franchise, Vernon Wells, and the US $ 86 million remaining four years later to Los Angeles Angels to find catcher Mike Napoli and outdoor player Juan Rivera.

In July 2011, Anthopoulos performed two consecutive missions to secure midfielder Colby Rasmus from the Cardinals of St. Before the 2012 Major League baseball season, Anthopoulos was known for trading to get more draft options.

In 2013, the Blue Jays finished 74-88, in last place in the AL East. The following year, they progressed to 83-79 and third place. During the 2014 season, Anthopoulos traded third Canadian player Brett Lawrie and three prospects to Josh Donaldson’s Oakland Athletics.

On January 12, 2016, Anthopoulos was appointed Vice President of Baseball Operations by Los Angeles Dodger. On November 13, 2017, Anthopoulos was appointed Vice-President and General Manager of Atlanta Braves after agreeing on a four-year contract.

The Braves promoted Anthopoulos as President of Baseball Operations in February 2020 and extended his contract for the 2024 season.
