Justin Morneau is the first retired Canadian midfielder to play in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2003-2016. He was signed by the Minnesota Twins, played for the team until 2013, and then played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rookies, and the Chicago White Sox.

The All-Star four times despite a career full of injuries, Morneau was named the essential player in the 2006 American League (AL) (MVP), finished second in the MVP in 2008, and won two Silver Slugger awards. In addition, Morneau won the 2008 Home Run Derby and the 2014 National League (NL) title. Internationally, Morneau represented Canada in 2006, 2009, 2013, and the 2017 World Baseball Classic. After retiring from baseball, he was selected at the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame and currently serves as a Special Assistant in the twins’ front office and the team’s color analyst at Bally Sports North.

Despite receiving many offers at NCAA schools, Morneau did not attend college. Instead, the Twins selected him in the 3rd round as the 89th general election of the 1999 MLB entry draft. Justin has played in various minor leagues. On June 10, 2003, Morneau made his major league debut with the twins against the Colorado Rockies, beating the cleanup. He collected impressive small league numbers the following season, appearing in 74 games for the 2004 Twins. He hit 19 home runs and 58 RBI on 280 at-bats while making three mistakes.
