    Owen Power is a collegiate ice hockey defenseman for the University of Michigan in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and a National Hockey League prospect for the Buffalo Sabres (NHL). The Sabres selected him first overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

Owen Power just ended his freshman season at the University of Michigan of the National Collegiate Athletic Association as a 2020 graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic (NCAA).

    Early life

    Owen Power was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario. He was selected by the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League in the second round of the 2018 OHL draft and the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in the first round of the 2018 USHL draft when he became eligible as a junior player. Owen Power joined Steel to keep his NCAA eligibility after verbally committing to play for the University of Michigan.

    Career

    When Owen Power was a kid, the blueliner acquired a strong passion for hockey. His ambition was to flourish in the game and become a well-known figure who would respect die-hard followers. In the years 2017-2018. In 32 games that season, he scored nine goals and added 24 assists for 33 points.

    The following season, he joined the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League, where he spent two seasons. He played 58 games with 11 goals and 25 points in his debut season in the USHL (2018-19), then 12 games with 18 points the following season. He was named to the end-of-season All-Rookie Second Team as a rookie with the Steel in the 2018–19 season, as the Steel proceeded to the Clark Cup finals. Then, during the 2018 World U-17 Hockey Challenge in New Brunswick, he received his first international call-up for Canada.

    In the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened season, he was named the 2019–20 USHL Defenceman of the Year and led the league’s defensemen with 40 points as Steel won the regular-season title.

    Owen Power joined the University of Michigan in 2020 and became a member of the college hockey team. He was named to the Big Ten All-First Team and Second Team All-Big Ten during his freshman season. He was also selected for Team Canada’s 2020-21 World Junior Camp. He was regarded as one of the best prospects in the NHL Entry Draft in 2021. He was chosen to participate in Hockey Canada’s selection camp.
