Senior Career

After developing himself at the club’s academy, he made his way to the senior team in 2006. Rui debuted in Primeira Liga in a 1–0 away victory over C.S. Marítimo, on 19 November 2006.

On November 27, 2007, Rui made his UEFA Champions League (UCL) debut in a 1–2 group stage defeat to Manchester United. Rui was named Sporting’s Footballer of the Year for the second year in a row on December 20, 2012.
