Apolo Ohno was born on the 22nd of May, 1982 in Federal Way, Washington, United States of America (USA). Apolo Ohno was born to parents Yuki Ohno and Jerrie Lee. His mother is European-American and his father is Japanese. When he was a child, Ohno’s parents divorced, leaving him in the care of his father. Yuki’s Diffusion Salon was operated by his father, who worked as a hairstylist.
He had to work long shifts as a single father to provide for his son, which he found difficult. He’d hire child care services to look after Apolo while he was at work. When his son was six years old, Yuki enrolled him in competitive swimming and quad-speed roller skating. He joined Pattison’s Team Xtreme and went on to become a national inline speedskating champion and world record holder.

Career
Apolo Ohno began skating when he was six years old. While his father worked long shifts, he enrolled him in such activities to keep him occupied. After watching the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer, he became interested in short-track speed skating when he was 13 years old. His father used to take him to short-track races all across the northwest United States and Canada.
Even though he was too young to train full-time, he enrolled at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center. Apolo was the overall winner of the 1997 U.S. Senior Championships. He took gold in the 1500 meters, silver in the 300 meters, and fourth in the 500 meters, making him the youngest individual to win the title.
Apolo Ohno then enrolled at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center at the age of 14 to train at the senior level. He won the World Championship overall in 2008, as well as the World Cup overall in 2001, 2003, and 2005. In addition, he took first place in two Olympic Games, eight World Championships, and one World Team Championship.
In 2010, he announced his retirement from the sport. Following his retirement, he entered the entertainment industry and was paired with Julianne Hough on the fourth season of the American reality show Dancing with the Stars.
