Feyisa Lilesa Career

He competed in international competitions in 2008. His first major competition was the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2008, where his 14th place finish in the small race helped the Ethiopians win silver medals. He ran in the first World 10K Bangalore event in May and became the fifth in a time of 28:35. Feyisa made his mark the following year, rose to prominence at the 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, and led the team to a silver medal by finishing in 12th place. He increased his distance by running the Rock’ n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon in September. Lilesa set a time of 1:02:15 but was also beaten second by a Kenyan rival.

In October, he ran in the 2010 Chicago Marathon and accompanied the race leaders, Tsegaye Kebede and Samuel Wanjiru, to a distance of 20 kilometers. He was part of the Ethiopian team that won silver medals at the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, where he finished in 17th place.
