Early life
Gianluca Busio was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on May 28, 2002, to parents who had relocated from Italy. Dionne Busio, his mother, was quite supportive of him throughout his journey, which is remarkable in and of itself. He gave his first professional assist to teammate Diego Rubio on a 74th-minute goal that proved to be the game-winner in a 1–0 tie. Busio was the third-youngest player in MLS history to start a game.
