Guilherme was called up to the complete national team for the first time on November 14, 2020, before a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Uruguay. He was chosen as an emergency substitute for Alex Telles, who had withdrawn from the team after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
On June 17, 2021, Brazil included him in the national squad for the 2020 Summer Olympics. He debuted for the senior team on October 7 in a World Cup qualifier away match versus Venezuela, which they won by 1-3.
