Professional Career
According to Wikipedia, he began playing football at Fantomas Kumasi’s youth academy. Then, in 1990, he joined King Faisal Babes’s academy and remained there for a year.
After playing junior football for local clubs in his nation, Samuel was taken to Europe by Torino F.C. in 1991, when he was just 15 years old.
From the Italian club, he joined FC Bayern Munich in 1993. Then, he was loaned out to FC Nürnberg during the 1996-97 season. After a season-long loan spell with Nürnberg in the second tier, he became Munich’s first-team player.
Samuel Kuffour spent 11 seasons with Munich, and during his time at the club, he was a crucial part of the 1998-99 and 2000–01 UEFA Champions League (UCL) team.
Unfortunately, in the 1999 UCL final, Munich lost to Manchester United by 2-1 and finally won it in the 2001 UCL final against Valencia.
After that, a defender was loaned to another Italian club, A.S. Livorno Calcio, for the 2006–2007 season in his second year. Livorno was a UEFA Cup competitor that season. He played his 89th and final match for Livorno in European cup tournaments.
He had a trial with English side Sunderland in August 2007, hoping for a permanent move, but the deal fell through.

After Ajax, there was a rumor that Samuel had retired, as stated by his agent on September 10. Nonetheless, he dismissed the information and expressed his willingness to continue his career on January 26, 2009.
After a 19-year absence, a center-back returned to Ghana, finishing his career with a three-month contract with Asante Kotoko FC in April. However, he did resign in late 2009 without ever playing for Kotoko.
He also scored the winning goal in the 2001 Intercontinental Cup versus Boca Juniors. Therefore, he was awarded man of the match.
He also finished second in the poll for 2001 African Footballer of the Year, replicating his achievement from 1999.
In 2005, he left Munich and returned to Italy to join AS Roma on a free transfer and signed a three-year contract.
Samuel earned his first cap against Sierra Leone when he was 17 years old on November 28, 1993. When he won bronze in the 1992 Olympics, just before his 16th birthday, he became the youngest Olympic Football Champion.
He also represented his country at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, appearing against Italy. However, following a costly error in Ghana’s opening encounter, a 0–2 loss, he was benched for the next three games as Brazil eliminated the team in the round of 16.
