Jonathon Simmons is an American professional basketball player who has played for the San Antonio Spurs, the Orlando Magic, and the Phoenix Suns. In addition, he has also played for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Jonathon Simmons Early Life

Jonathan Simmons was born on September 14, 1989, in Houston, Texas. He is the son of Michael Sean (Father) and LaTonya Simmons (Mother). He grew up with his sister (Joi Simmons) and a younger brother.

Jonathon Simmons’s senior career started when he went for the NBA draft. He receives multiple pre-selected with lots of NBA teams but he wasn’t selected for the 2012 NBA. However, he was drafted for the inaugural American Basketball League (ABL) for the first round. It was the Sugar Land Legends in 2013 on where he scored 36.5 points on 16 games.

Despite being undrafted by NBA, Jonathon later signed with the Austin Toros/Spurs of the NBA Development League from (2013-2015). He improves his basketball skills and scores good points against the Bakersfield Jam. However, he faced lots of obstacles during his time in Austin and also has to visit the court. But he still manages to score an average point in the game and become the NBA-D League All-Defensive third team.

Besides, Simmons first broke into the NBA in 2013 when he signed a 10-day contract with the San Antonio Spurs. In the summer of 2015, he signed a contract with the Orlando Magic and played with them until many injuries to the team caused him to miss the playoffs. He has signed a 2-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs and played two seasons with them to gain valuable experience. Critics say that Simmons’s play is not up to par with other players in his position, but Simmons has proved to be a solid scorer.

In 2016, Simmons signed a contract with the Spurs for the rest of the season. Simmons played for the Spurs during the playoffs averaging 5 points and 0 rebounds. In June 2017, Simmons signed a contract with the Orlando Magic for the 2017-2018 seasons. However, in October 2017, Simmons was traded to the Phoenix Suns.

Later in 2020, Jonathon was again acquired by the Santa Cruz Warrior in exchange for Antonius Cleveland and Jared Cunningham for the 2020 NBA G League draft. But he bears the loss against the Salt Lake city stars.
