Terry Smith was Buatsi’s first coach. Joshua made his professional debut against Carlos Mena in July 2017 after finishing amateur tournaments. In the second round, he TKO’d his opponent.

In 2017, Buatsi appeared in three matches, winning all three. Joshua faced Andrejs Pokumeiko for his first title, the vacant WBA International light-heavyweight title, in 2018. He eventually won the fight via TKO in the first round. Until 2018, the player held the title on two occasions. In March 2019, Buatsi faced Liam Conroy for a rematch for the vacant British light-heavyweight title.

Joshua eventually won the fight by TKO in the third round. Joshua successfully defended his championship twice in 2019. In 2020, he defeated Marko Calic to maintain his WBA International light-heavyweight title. Buatsi fought Daniel Blenda Dos Santos to defend his WBA International light-heavyweight title and won the match. In his professional career, he has yet to lose a single match.
