Katie Sowers is an American former football coach who is well-known for being the first ever openly lesbian female coach in the history of the Super Bowl. Prior to the beginning of the 2017 season of the National Football League, she announced her sexuality openly.

Before building her career as a coach, she was also a football player who played for professional American football teams like the West Michigan Mayhem and the Kansas City Titans who competed in the professional full-contact women’s American football league, the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA). She played till the year 2016 and had to retire from professional football after suffering career ending hip injury.
