In February 2017, Nicholas was bought by the Mumbai Indians team for the 2017 Indian Premier League for INR 30 lakhs but did not play any game throughout the season. Pooran played for Islamabad United in 2017 in the Pakistan Super League as he was replaced by Ben Duckett of England for United. He joined the team before the playoffs. In July 2019, Cricket West Indies awarded him a mid-contract contract for the first time, ahead of the 2019-20 season.
