    Raphael Wicky Career as Football Player

    Raphael started coaching football with the Steg Youth team in 1984. He played and trained with the Steg youth team until 1990 and then moved on to Zion and started playing for the team in 1993. , appearing in 130 games. In 1997, Raphael moved to the German Bundesliga, signing with Werder Bremen.

    Raphael played for the club until 2000 and then moved on to Spanish giants Atletic Madrid. However, after appearing in 11 games, he returned to the Bundesliga in December 2001. Wicky signed for Hamburger SV until the end of the season with the option of extending until June 2005. In 2007, Wickey returned to his former club, Sion, and signed a three-year contract.

    The Swiss international completed his professional career in 2008 with Chivas USA in Major League Soccer. Raphael played his first game in 1996 against the Swiss team at Euro 1996.     Shortly after retiring, FC Thun offered him the opportunity to work as the head coach of their youth team. He worked with the team for one year and then moved to Service and worked as its head youth coach. In 2013, FC Basel hired him as their new U-18 coach. After working with the team for three years, Wicky worked as a head coach for U-21 and his senior team in 2017.

    Raphael led the team to their eighth consecutive league title. However, in July 2018, he was sacked after failing to qualify for the second round of the league. In March 2019, Wicky was named head coach of the United States Under-17 men’s team. On the MLB side, Chicago Fire hired him as their new MLB coach in December 2019.

    Raphael is a married man who lives happily ever after with his wife. Wicky married his longtime girlfriend, Laura, in December 2018 in Los Angeles. They had been together and dating for several years before tying the knot. Unlike other executives, Wickey did not show much presence on social media and did not share a name about his life with his wife.
