    Santiago Vescovi Early Life and Background

    Born on 14 September 2001, Santiago Vescovi hails from Montevideo, Uruguay. Vescovi holds Uruguayan nationality and comes from a white ethnic background. His zodiac sign is Virgo.

    Vescovi is the son of Pablo Vescovi and Laura Vannet. Regarding his family, his father, Pablo, played volleyball for Atletico Bohemios and his grandfather used to play basketball for the Uruguayan National Team and Bohemios. Vescovi spent his early life growing up with his sister Lucia in Uruguay and later came to America.

    High School Highlights

    Santiago Vescovi started basketball at the youth level for Club Atletico Bohemios. The NBA Academy Latin America sent Vescovi an invitation after observing his game performances at the Basketball Without Borders camp in July 2017.

    Vescovi attended the academy when he was 16 and received online education through Apex Learning Virtual School. In July 2019, Vescovi moved to Canberra and participated at an Australian Institute, NBA Global Academy.

    Vescovi helped his team to the 2019 NBA Academy Games championship in the same month. Vescovi averaged 17.4 points per game, naming him the most valuable player of the Skill Factory Tournament of Champions.

    Then in September 2019, Vescovi played for the Uruguay Elite Team at the NBA G League International Challenge. Vescovi set an average of 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, three assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

    His performances earned him a four-star recruit rating from 247Sports and a three-star rating from ESPN and Rivals. In addition, 247Sports ranked Vescovi No. 79 in the overall recruiting. On 22 November 2019, Vescovi settled to play for the University of Tennessee. 

    College and National Team Highlights

    Santiago Vescovi had plans to enroll in Tennessee during the second semester. However, after his enrollment, Coach Rick Barnes said it was “doubtful” for Vescovi to play in his freshman season. Fortunately, Vescovi got his chance after Lamonte Turner got into an injury.

    On 4 January 2020, Vescovi made his college debut against LSU, where he scored 18 points, shooting 6-of-9 from three-point range, in a 78–64 loss. He set a record of a season-high 20 points and eight assists against Arkansas in his freshman season. The match concluded in an 82-61 win over Arkansas. 

    On 22 February, an Auburn fan yelled a xenophobic taunt at Vescovi. The fan was later ejected and barred from any future games. As a freshman, Vescovi started in 19 games, and he set an average of 10.7 points, 3.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. Then in his sophomore season, he averaged 8.7 points, 3.1 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game.

    Vescovi also played in international events, including the FIBA South America Under-15 Championship in his junior season and the 2019 Pan American Games in his senior season. In his junior season championship, Vescovi set an average of 21.8 points, six rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, placing fourth.
