Youth Career
Bernie began playing youth football for Blacktown City in New South Wales Premier League. He was instantly acknowledged as a player with huge prospects and was assigned to join Westfields Sports High School.
In 2009, Central Coast Mariners signed him to play for their youth team in the A-League competition.
Senior Career
On 12 February 2010, Bernie Ibini-Isei made his Mariners debut in an away clash versus Wellington Phoenix. He debuted as a starting 11 in a 3–1 win over the Gold Coast and had a goal.
On 7 June 2013, the winger moved to the Chinese Super League side Shanghai East Asia on a 3-year deal. However, Shanghai loaned him back to the Mariners on 8 January 2014, and he remained there until 31 May.

Shanghai again transferred him on loan back to Australia but to join Sydney FC in May 2014. Following his loan spell with Sidney, he joined Belgium side Club Brugge and inked a three-year contract with the club on 5 June 2015.
In 2016, Bernie Ibini-Isei got back to Sydney on a loan deal. Then, on 9 May 2017, he moved to Major League Soccer (MLS) club Vancouver Whitecaps FC on a one-year deal with a chance to make it a two-year deal.
Nevertheless, the Whitecaps terminated his contract in a mutual term and transferred him to Emirates Club of the UAE Pro League in August 2018. After making just 8 appearances and 1 goal, he left Emirates to sign with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of the K-league.
In 2020, he moved back to A-league and joined Newcastle Jets, making six appearances and scoring one goal. After his short time at the Jets, he joined Western Sydney Wanderers the same year.
International Career
Bernie debuted for Australia at the U-20 level in 2011 in a 1–0 win over Germany’s U-20.
On 10 October 2014, he made his senior team debut as a stater in a warm-up match for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup versus the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
