Kalusha Bwalya is a retired international football player from Zambia. He is regarded as one of the most outstanding players in Zambian football history.

Kalusha was a forward and winger and served as the Zambia coach after retiring as a player. Bwalya was also a vice president of the Football Association of Zambia until 2008.

Senior Career

According to Wikipedia, his senior career began with Mufulira Blackpool in 1979, and he just remained there for a year. He joined Mufulira Wanderers in 1980 and stayed with them until 1985, where he gained a lot of experience.

Kalusha then moved to Belgium to join Cercle Brugge in 1985. He was the club’s leading scorer in his first season and was named supporters’ player of the year twice in his time at Brugge. Kalusha made 95 appearances and scored 30 goals for the team.

As a result, the Dutch side PSV Eindhoven had eagle-eyed him and brought him to the Eredivisie in 1989. During his stay at Eindhoven, he won the championship twice in 1990/91 and 1991/92, under Bobby Robson.

After making 101 appearances and tallying 25 goals for the Dutch giant, he left the club and moved to Mexico to join Club América in 1994. A Zambian spent most of his playing time in Mexico with other clubs.

He joined many Mexican teams after playing for the América, including Necaxa, Leon, Irapuato, Veracruz, and Correcaminos. Kalusha also played in the UAE Pro League for Al Wahda.

International Career

Kalusha made his debut in a Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan in April 1983 at Dag Hammarskjoeld Stadium in Ndola and scored his first goal against Uganda in a World Cup qualifier the following year.

He has competed in several events, including six African Cup of Nations editions. Between 1983 and 2004, he played in 87 international matches for his country, scoring 39 goals.

He was a national team member that competed in the 1988 Olympic Games, scoring a remarkable hat-trick against Italy in a 4–0 triumph.

Administrative Career

He is now a member of FIFA’s and the Confederation of African Football’s standing committees, and from 2008 to 2016, he was the president of the Football Association of Zambia.
