Tesho’s football journey began while he was at college. According to MLS Soccer, he attended the Colorado School of Mines played college football.

In 2010, he started all 21 contests, ushered the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) with 19 goals, and added seven assists.

As a result, he was named NSCAA First Team All-America and RMAC Freshman of the Year. In addition, Tesho became the first player in the school’s conference to score three successive hat-tricks.

He started all 19 matches, scored 16 goals, and registered 11 assists in 2011. Hence, Tesho was named NSCAA Second Team All-American and RMAC Preseason Player.

In 2012, a forward started all 21 games and was awarded First-Team NSCAA All-American and RMAC Offensive Player of the Year after scoring 22 goals, making him second in the nation. Moreover, he established himself as the all-time leading goal scorer (76).

On April 12, 2014, a 29-year-old made his professional debut in a 2–3 loss to Seattle Sounders FC. Tesho was voted MLS Rookie of the Year after scoring seven goals in 26 appearances.

After staying in Dallas for 4 years, he left the team and joined Orlando City on December 9, 2018. On March 2, he made his debut for the Lions versus New York City FC and netted his first goal. On August 14, he also scored in the Lions’ 1-0 win against Sporting Kansas City.

He played in 28 games in 2019, scoring a career-high 10 goals, adding two assists, and making a career-high number of starts (22).

Tesho Akindele made 23 appearances in all competitions during the 2020 season, starting 12 games and scoring four goals. On July 10, he and the Lions agreed to a contract extension.

Speaking of his international career, he attended a Canadian youth national team’s training camp in 2009, and on April 2, 2009, he played for Canada’s U-17 national team in a friendly versus Costa Rica.

On June 11, 2015, Tesho made his Canada debut against Dominica. On June 16, he scored his first goal for Canada in a 4–0 win over Dominica at BMO Field in the return leg.

After being left out of the initial 23-man CONCACAF Gold Cup team, Canada called him up in the quarterfinals on July 23 as an injured substitute for Ayo Akinola. Tesho came on as a 70th-minute substitute as Canada beat Costa Rica 2–0 to get to the semi-finals.
