He began his football career with Maccabi Haifa, an Israeli professional football team situated in Haifa. In early 2006, Tomer Hemed was called up to Haifa’s first team after scoring regularly for the under-18 side.

A forward made his season debut on March 3, 2007, as a substitute in a 1–2 home loss to Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv. On May 26, Tomer Hemed scored his first professional goals, scoring both goals in a 2–0 win over Maccabi Herzliya.

After being released by Brighton, he signed a one-year contract with Championship side Charlton Athletic on August 19, 2019. On August 24, he made his Addicks debut as a substitute in a 1–0 home victory over Brentford, a fellow London club.

Nevertheless, after not scoring a single goal in his 19 appearances in all competitions, Tomer was released by the club as his contract ended following the team’s relegation.

Tomer signed a one-year contract as a marquee player for A-League club Wellington Phoenix on November 30, 2020. On March 15, 2021, he scored his first goal in his eighth game. The Phoenix announced his departure from the club on July 10, 2021.
